Catastrophic climate changes have pushed society to the brink of catastrophe... Metro tunnels are flooded, abandoned cars burn in the streets, and authorities warn of deadly epidemics approaching. People flee north to Finland and Norway, where living conditions are still tolerable.
Tapani Lehtinen is one of the few who hasn’t given up and still wants to live in Helsinki. But a few days before Christmas, his fragile little world collapses — his beloved wife Johanna, a correspondent for a central newspaper, disappears. Tapani is sure that Johanna’s disappearance is connected to the subject of her journalistic investigation — crimes for which a serial killer operating on political motives, known as the Healer, is responsible. But no one cares about the missing woman.
In despair, Tapani throws himself into the search and soon uncovers secrets from Johanna’s past that link her to the killer…
