Ildar Abdülmanov’s novel “The King of the World” is a fairy tale for our times, and, in accordance with the spirit of the age of a happy ending, the reader won’t find one. An ordinary person who suddenly acquires supernatural abilities becomes not a creator but a destroyer.
Realizing that even his very existence is a threat to the whole world does not stop the main character of the story, Vlasov. He continues to strive for unlimited power and, along his path of blackmail and violence, he ruins and poisons the souls of those who were near, leaving out of his life those bright feelings that are natural to any normal person. And enlightenment and remorse come far too late… Vlasov becomes a hostage of the situation, unable to escape the pursuit of mysterious cosmic aliens who are hunting for the multivertor—a magical mirror, a source of supernatural abilities and all misfortunes.
