The Thirteenth Eve

She woke up in some unclear place. It was cold, with a half-darkness. Strange, but she had absolutely no memory of how she ended up here — and why, in her hands, she had a large knife with a wide blade covered with something red… Noticing drops of blood on the floor, she followed the trail and in the next room found the body of a woman with many stab wounds. Could it be that she killed her? But then why doesn’t she remember anything? Did memory conveniently block the bad memories? She would sort all this out later; for now she had to somehow get out of this terrible place where, at any moment, she could be seized and accused of a murder she hadn’t committed. Or had she…? As she wiped fingerprints from the knife handle, she noticed a tattoo on her wrist: “Eva.13.” So her name is Eva? But why number 13, and where are the other twelve Evas? She felt that the key to everything that had happened to her lay right here…
