A Woman of Thirty

In 1813, the main heroine Julie appears before us as a seventeen-year-old love-struck fiancée, and leaves as an old woman—whom the author himself describes as a “criminal mother.” But it is precisely at thirty that Julie meets a man whose overwhelming love will become the cause of so many misfortunes for the heroine’s family.
