The book combines two autobiographical novels by Aleksey Motorov: “The Young Years of the Parovozov Medical Orderly” and “The Crime of Doctor Parovozov.” The first tells about young Aleksey Motorov, who has only recently graduated from a medical school, dreams of entering an institute, and gets a job in the resuscitation department as a medical orderly. It’s the 1980s— the country is cracking at the seams, and everything around is collapsing before your eyes, yet through the cracks in the fabric of the world, terrifying and alluring rays of the future begin to break through. The second novel is devoted to the end of the 1980s and the first half of the 1990s: student years and the need to grab any job, and then tanks, coups, bandits, and the position of doctor at Moscow’s First City Hospital.
