Longing

Originally published in the journal “Novoye Slovo” in 1896, in the June and July issues, under the title “Toska (A Page from the Life of One Miller).” Later included by the author in the collection “Essays and Stories” in 1898 and in all subsequent collected editions. The word “li” placed in square brackets was added by the editors. Published according to the text that M. Gorky prepared for a collected works edition by the publisher “Kniga.”
