The Tommyknockers

During a walk in the woods, a resident of the town of Haven, Bobby Anderson, finds a strange metal object underground. A sudden burst of insight motivates her to completely free the unusual object from the soil.

Some time later, Bobby realizes she has discovered a spaceship resting here—unbelievably for a very long time. Forgetting sleep and food, she gets closer and closer to digging it up entirely. And without even noticing it herself, she starts generating brilliant ideas and creating incredible things—things she would never have been able to do before.

Soon Bobby’s lover, James Gardener, arrives in Haven. He understands something is wrong with his friend, but soon joins the digging as well, along with other residents whom the ship attracts like a magnet. Only later does he realize the incredible power of the interplanetary shuttle that turns people into unfeeling monsters—tomminokers…
