Betty hasn’t been a child for a long time—she’s already twelve. Only no one wants to admit it. Mom dresses her in doll-like dresses, and Dad doesn’t even notice her. Even Arthur Nim—the smartest boy in the class—doesn’t take her seriously.
And then, one day—on an especially dull day, on her birthday—Betty notices that a silvery thread is trailing from her back. Following the thread, she finds herself in the Shadows—a strange and terrifying world of the Weaver. Only those who the Weaver has tangled up—sucked out all the joy and dreams thread by thread—end up here. But Betty is still alive! She isn’t a Spun One! And she has to find a way home, come what may, and save new friends. And also resist the Weaver—both in the Shadows and within herself.
