Thích Nhất Hạnh (Vietnamese Thích Nhất Hạnh, pronounced: tʰǐk ɲə̌t hâːˀɲ); also known as Thích Nhất Hạnh; in everyday life Nguyen Xuan Bao (Vietnamese Nguyễn Xuân Bảo) — a Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk, abbot of the Buddhist meditation center Plum Village in Dordogne (France), author of a number of books on Zen Buddhism.

* The Vietnamese Thiền tradition to which Thích Nhất Hạnh belongs, like Zen, traces its roots to Chinese Chán Buddhism. In English-language sources, Thiền tradition is traditionally called Zen in the Japanese way. Since Thích Nhất Hạnh is active mainly in the West, this definition of his tradition is found in authoritative sources, and it is preserved here as well. However, this in no way implies that Thích Nhất Hạnh is the successor of the Japanese Buddhist tradition.
