Terrorism and Communism / The Permanent Revolution

“Terrorism and Communism. The Permanent Revolution” by Leon Trotsky is a sharp, intellectually charged collection that lets you hear the revolution from within—through the voice of one of its principal theorists and practitioners. These are texts written not in retrospect, but in the moment of political tension, when questions of power, war, discipline, and the future of the state were being decided. Trotsky writes with harsh clarity and a polemical edge, turning political theory into a living struggle of arguments.

You will learn:
– How Trotsky explains the logic of the Civil War and the role of violence in preserving revolutionary power.
– Why he argues with liberal criticism and on what grounds he defends “revolutionary necessity.”
– What lies at the heart of the idea of permanent revolution and why, according to Trotsky, revolution cannot stop within the borders of a single country.
– How ideology becomes practice: the army, the state, discipline, mobilization, and the cost of decisions.

This collection is neither a neutral retelling nor a textbook, but a text of an era that helps you understand how the political language of the 20th century was formed. The book will be of interest to anyone who studies history seriously: historians, political scientists, philosophers, and those who want to understand revolutions and ideologies without simplifications.
