Crossing the vast, wild expanse between Moscow and Beijing is possible only one way—by rail, aboard the famed Trans-Siberian Express. Only now it’s known not for luxury and comfort, but for the dangers that passengers face along the entire route. However great and many-faced these dangers may be, there’s no shortage of travelers eager to see the Doldrums—a country of supernatural phenomena bordering on mysticism. On this run, among the passengers, is a woman crushed by grief who has taken a stranger’s name for some reason; a persecuted naturalist ready to do anything to restore his scientific reputation; and a young fare-dodger who looks and behaves extremely oddly—and at times downright frighteningly. Along with them travels the memory of the train crew from the previous trip—a grim, chaotic memory full of mysterious gaps. First time in Russian!
