This is Stephen King’s strong point: an incredibly tense, psychologically charged drama. “The Dark Half” makes it clear that the dark side exists in each of us— we just don’t know about it until a certain moment. Even though almost nothing happens throughout most of the novel with Ted Beaumont—we only observe his thoughts and his speech— you can’t tear yourself away from the book. At the center of the book is the writer Ted Beaumont. Like many people like him, he creates under a pseudonym—George Stark. Beaumont gains fame and recognition, and then decides to publicly bury his pseudonym. Even on one of the cemeteries, there appears a grave with the name—George Stark. But is it possible to bury John Stark, who is known and loved by millions of readers? And will he object?
The book also includes two stories: “Night Shift” and “I—Doorway Opening.”
