Nikolai Gogol’s famous novella from the cycle “Mirgorod,”

“Taras Bulba” is one of the best of the great Russian Christian writer Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol. It is devoted to the heroic pages of the history of the Zaporozhian Cossacks. Recreating vivid and imaginative pictures of the glorious past, Gogol shows us true heroes of the spirit—distinguished by courage and loyalty to the brotherhood of arms, martial dash and bravery, love for God and the Fatherland.

In creating the novella, the author widely used various historical sources: memoirs, chronicles, research, and folklore materials.
