A giant city is a sealed world for all its inhabitants. No one can leave it because nobody knows where its border lies. The city is run by Infor—the main computer created long ago to meet the needs of the citizens, but over time it became the full-fledged master of the City, controlling people’s lives according to its own logic. The conditions it created are so perfect that people have not the slightest need to leave their apartments: even to visit someone, they “go” via video monitors that create a complete illusion of presence.
But then there’s a writer who first, out of pure curiosity, goes outside the City—and then, seriously intrigued, decides to find out where the City ends. The computer begins to get revenge…
