Young icon painter Danilka arrives in a mining village to search for his missing brother—the miner Stepan. But his name seems to have been erased from the life of the settlement: no one remembers that such a person ever existed.
Nearly a hundred years ago, a Mansi girl was born in these parts, able to hear the voices of the mountains. However, her grandfather, an old shaman, uses spells to “sew” her mouth shut: by the people’s customs, women are not allowed to address spirits.
Two lines, separated by decades, intertwine step by step, revealing a shared nature of lost voice, suppressed rage, and violence done to memory. Danilka will have to meet his own shadow—and with ancient forces that do not forgive an intrusion.
