The Secret of the Captive General

October 1941. The remnants of the 303rd division, together with other Soviet units, are fighting in encirclement near Vyazma. The Germans shoot down the airplane on which a representative of the GKO—Lieutenant General Bespalov—was flying to the army headquarters. He had important documents. If the Germans capture the general, the encircled units will be doomed. Lieutenant Gleb Shubin’s reconnaissance group is sent to search. The fighters find the downed plane, but Bespalov isn’t among the dead. It turned out the general had been taken prisoner by the SS and sent to a headquarters located in the nearest settlement.
