The owner of a used-book shop “Libri di Luca,” located in the center of Copenhagen, is found dead. By law, the case falls to the only son of Luca Campelli—a successful lawyer, Jon. In the shop’s basement he learns a secret about his father: Luca Campelli was the head of a powerful “Book Lovers’ Society,” whose members (so-called “readers”) could, with the help of books, exert psychological influence on listeners by manipulating the reader’s consciousness and transforming the images that arise there into fantastic visions and sensations.
