In 1779, in England, Darkton Hall is a sinister and secluded estate in the foggy landscape of Hampshire, where not many servants dare to work. Too many mysterious disappearances and unsolved riddles.
And yet Louise Le Clerc goes there under a fictional name with a fake biography, full of determination to uncover the truth. She acts as the eyes and ears of her patron, who has tasked her with finding out who Count Oderley is, where he has been for two years, and whether he is truly connected to a series of unsolved murders.
As Louise draws closer to the truth, the situation becomes increasingly dangerous. Everyone in this house wears a mask—and Louise herself has one too.
