1829. A manor by the Cornish coast. Servant Sarah Lesson is present during the last minutes of her mistress, Lady Trevelton. But it seems Sarah has no intention of giving the note to her master, because the next morning she vanishes without a trace—taking the secret with her.
What connects these two, and why was it easier for her to leave “in the English way” than to fulfill the deceased’s last wish?
