A shadow of evil… Can it be called up in a séance or captured on a photograph?
In the workshop “Garland and Lockhart” it’s always lively—Fred experiments with new cameras and filming techniques. Growing up, Sally (the beginning of her story can be read in the novel “A Ruby in the Mist”) opens her own business. Now she advises on financial matters. Jim writes plays and works at the theater.
But one day Sally and her friends involuntarily become detectives. Seemingly random events that happen to each of them turn out to be links in a single chain. And behind it all is the owner of the “Polar Star” companies. Bellman is omnipotent. He sells death and creates monstrous “steam guns.” With every step, Sally, Jim, and Fred are pulled more and more deeply into the ominous shadow of the “Polar Star.”
