Parties at the Amadeus house had been an annual event in the town of Nevermore until thirteen years ago, when at one of those evenings the mayor’s six-year-old daughter, Beatrice, disappeared. The head of the family was sent to prison on suspicion of kidnapping, and the rest left the town forever.
One day, guests appear again on the doorstep of the Amadeus house: the owner of the local hotel, Mrs. Voron; the eccentric duchess von Pelt; Judge Ophelius, who handled Beatrice’s case; the unlucky Count Baines; a doctor, Fuzl, who is fascinated by alchemy; and an elderly couple, the existence of whom is instantly forgotten.
All of them were at that fateful reception, and now they will have to learn what actually happened to Beatrice. Only they don’t know that the criminal is among them already…
