Description
All the states on Earth are divided into three opposing political Blocs. The Bloc of Peoples consists of the poorest countries of Asia; their main export is labor power. The Food Bloc—the Northern Hemisphere—produces and exports food. And the Fuel Bloc, which includes the Arab countries, has reserves of natural resources.
Automatic probes have delivered to Earth information about an Earth-like planet orbiting the star Kunga. The planet—named Jem, Son of Kunga, or Klông—was decided to be colonized immediately by all three Blocs.
Sending ships with people and equipment to another world is unimaginably expensive, but different Blocs go along with it out of political ambitions and the personal interests of individual citizens. The consequences of this decision have become catastrophic.
