A Room of One's Own

One of the first statements about women in literature that became a classic. Virginia Woolf claims that the main thing women lacked in order to create works was their own room to be alone in, and a minimum income so as not to starve.

Virginia Woolf, a British writer and literary critic. A leading figure of modernist literature in the first half of the 20th century. In the 1970s, Virginia Woolf became one of the central figures of feminism. Her fiction and essays have been translated into more than fifty languages.

Her best-known novels are “Mrs Dalloway,” “Orlando,” “To the Lighthouse” (all of them have been adapted into films).

Woolf became one of the characters in Michael Cunningham’s novel “The Hours” and in the film of the same name, where her role was played by Nicole Kidman.
