A tale of killing and going to heaven. An Old Rus’ detective story. In 1165, the death of the prince’s tax collector seems to many to be connected to a long-ago murder of boyar Kuchka—the last owner of Kuchkovo (later, Moscow). The novel’s characters will have to investigate not only the murders, but also uncover the mystery of the origin of the legends of the 12th century about the city of Kitezh and the Grail. This story is also about love adventures, and about the path to Yarilyna vesa described in the novel Vesnyanka. A chain of events and crimes from the 12th century reaches into our days: the discovery of a birch-bark document, tales about the Third Kitezh and the stash of the Kuchkovichi hidden there after the death of Andrey Bogolyubsky, and the 12th-century prophecy about the future of Russia that can explain a lot in the present…
