Superwoman from the GRU. Desperate Housewife Ruth Werner ("Sonya")

A biography of one of the most famous Soviet spies of the 20th century—the German Ruth Werner (Ursula Kuchinsky), who bore the surnames Hamburger and Burton. Working in illegal intelligence forced her to constantly change names, countries, and even continents, yet until the end of her life she remained a convinced communist and devoted to the Soviet Union. A GRU colonel, radio operator, resident, and an acclaimed writer, Ruth Werner, known under the pseudonym “Sonia,” began her intelligence career in China under the guidance of Richard Sorge. On the eve of World War II, she organized in Switzerland an agent network connected with the “Red Orchestra” and made a significant contribution to obtaining information related to the creation of atomic weapons—and this is only a part of her operations. One of the authors is Colonel V. V. Bochkaryov, a GRU veteran and head of veteran structures and the Strategic Intelligence section, who met Werner personally in the USSR and Germany; documents from the GRU archive were also used in preparing the book.
