The events of the novel “A Wonderland Without Brakes and the End of the World” by the popular Japanese writer Haruki Murakami unfold from the very start along two plot lines—through the even and the odd chapters. It might seem: what could possibly be in common between two completely unlike narratives? The answer starts to take shape only at the end of the book. The contemplative tone of Japanese literature and the author’s long inner dialogues through the heroes coexist with the bubbling, fantastic, high-tech events of the plot.
