Amélie Nothomb, a Francophone writer, is known for her witty and vivid short novels. Her works, translated into many languages, have earned recognition and prestigious awards such as the Grand Prix of the French Academy and the Strega Prize. For more than thirty years, she has been releasing new books every year, including the famous bestsellers “Fear and Trembling” and “Tokyo Fiancée.” These novels, based on her personal biography, tell about Amélie’s life in Japan, where she spent her childhood as the daughter of a diplomat. “Fear and Trembling” describes her experience working at a Japanese company, while “Tokyo Fiancée” tells of her romantic relationship with a Japanese man. Both works have been successfully adapted for the big screen.
