The Hundred-and-First Kilometer

Moscow. 1952. Former head of the Operations Directorate, Commissar of State Security, Third Rank Igor Sergeyevich Muravyov, at the urging of his father-in-law—the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers—leaves a warm, but now unsafe post in the ideological service of the MGB. From now on, he is deputy chief of the police. And it seems like a decent, even “generals’” place—and it’s needed only for a couple of years, to wait out the calm at the ministry, while there’s unrest in the soul of General Muravyov. Mostly because he is about to meet former work comrades—especially Danilov, with whom he had a serious conflict back in distant 1945. But now Muravyov has a good chance to settle accounts with an old enemy.
