This book grew out of conversations with all sorts of people about the Old Believers, about the Church, about history, and about Russia’s fate. The existence of the Old Believers reminds us: the Schism has not been healed, answers to the main questions are not given, and you can’t just calm down—you need the courage to go all the way. That seems to be the only way to look toward the future of our country and our people. The author paints a broad picture of the history and cultural life of the Old Believers, explains the principles of their faith, and examines the main myths about the Old Believers that have taken root in mass consciousness.
