And everything would be fine, if only my father, the count, hadn’t squandered all the money, leaving us with nothing— and not even a roof over our heads. But I’m not a helpless little lady. A strong-willed character and plenty of wit have always been enough, and besides, my profession in my past life was useful and in demand—so we won’t be left without bread. The main thing is to stay alive and well; the rest we’ll earn!
