This edition is timed for the 70th anniversary of the legendary fairy tale about the pioneer Volka, who caught a strange jug from the Moscow River and released a kind genie from centuries-long imprisonment.
In the musical audio play “The Old Man Hottabych,” the roles were performed by Armen Dzhigarkhanyan, Elena Solovyeva, Alexander Klyukvin, Veniamin Smehov, and Maxim Pinkser. The audio-book design uses illustrations by the classic of Russian caricature, Konstantin Rotov, for the first edition of the fairy tale.
For the first time, the fantastic story “The Old Man Hottabych” was published in the magazine “Pioneer” in 1938. The first book edition appeared two years later, in 1940. In 1956, Gennady Kazansky filmed a movie of the same name; after its release, the tale’s popularity increased many times over. The book has been translated into more than 50 foreign languages, and its total circulation exceeded several million copies.
The publisher claims that this is a complete, uncensored version. The 1955 version lasts 11 hours of audio. Possibly, the original version has been recorded.
