Description
The 77-year-old teacher Anatoly Vasilyevich Tserkovny fills out the class register. He tries in vain to remember who was absent from the lesson that has just ended. An hour later, the answer comes on its own: a report spreads through the school about a brutal murder in a nearby dacha settlement. The victim looks exactly like Tserkovny’s sister, who disappeared in childhood long ago. Coincidence? The old man’s nightmares from the past return. And they bring new monsters with them—far more terrible and dangerous.

The book contains profanity.

“Horrror of the Russian Backwoods” is three novels linked by storyline and chronology: “Sonya,” “Technical Department,” and “The Old Man.” It’s not necessary to read them in that exact order: each novel is completely self-contained. Here, in different proportions, detective, thriller, horror, and pure unadulterated madness are mixed together. There are no unambiguous answers and no simple solutions. But there is always a mystery. A terrible one. And even the faintest attempt to solve it is dangerous to life.
