1941. After the Allied victory in North Africa, a thousand captured Italian soldiers are sent as forced labor to a remote island off the Scottish coast. Their arrival becomes the cause of discord in the local community: many island residents shun the Italians and see them only as bloodthirsty enemies. But for Dorothy and Constance—two orphaned sisters—this is simply a group of tortured poor men: wounded, hungry, and cold. The girls try to help the soldiers, and one of them—a young man named Cesare—awakens in Dorothy a special interest. As the war drags on and tensions between the islanders and outsiders grow, the sisters’ loyalty to each other is put to the test. The choice between duty and desire isn’t simple, and on one fateful evening that choice will bring devastating consequences. “Steel Heart” is a grand story of love, loyalty, and conscience, inspired by real events of World War II.
