Ask Grandmother Shizuki

A series of Japanese cozy detective stories called “Ikigai Detective” blends philosophy about finding meaning in life, harmony, and joy in little things. The plot centers on young detective Katsuragi, who works in Tokyo police. He doesn’t have outstanding abilities, but he always strives to uncover the truth.

He’s helped by Madoka, a law student with whom he discusses cases over tea in a café. Katsuragi is charmed by her sharp insight.

Madoka, who was left an orphan in childhood, lives with her grandmother Sizuka, a former judge. She shares details of crimes with her granddaughter—and thanks to her extraordinary perceptiveness, she solves even the most difficult cases without leaving home.

Despite her abilities, Sizuka herself keeps a huge secret that remains undisclosed.
