Consciousness and the Absolute

In this book you will find the concluding teachings of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj—his last dialogues with people who came from all corners of the world. These talks, held in the final days of his life, were the culmination of exceptionally rare teachings he passed on to us—an assembly of the highest levels of his wisdom. He taught us to find out for ourselves who we really are, to reflect on his words, and to determine whether they can be true. He said that a person must investigate what the body is, where it came from; that one should examine it openly and without judgments. While abiding in “Beingness” (or Consciousness, which is pure love), this Consciousness itself provided us with all answers. At present, Consciousness is what we are—not personal consciousness, but impersonal, universal Consciousness. Time will come when Consciousness will show us that we are not it—that it is the eternal Absolute, unborn and unacquainted with death. This turned us inward, allowing us to know what we are, and to become one with this. Every shade of this person’s extraordinary wisdom is reflected in these last conversations—subtle and penetrating talks with those who were fortunate enough to be in his presence.
