The Soviet civilization is alive to this day. It is alive in people, in their ideals. It is alive in the colossal material and spiritual heritage that all of us, sometimes without noticing, use every day. It is alive despite all attempts to destroy it, erase it from human memory.
In 70 years, an incredible leap was made in almost every sphere of life. The Soviet people showed that a fairy tale can be turned into reality. Almost all the social benefits available to the modern Western person were obtained under the influence of the USSR.
The audio studio “Ardis” presents to you a book by Russian political scientist and publicist Sergey Kara-Murza, “Soviet Civilization.” It was first published in 2001 by the “Algorithm” publishing house in two volumes (“Soviet Civilization: From the Beginning to the Great Victory” and “Soviet Civilization: From the Great Victory to Our Days”), and later was repeatedly reissued.
The author considers the book his most successful work. The newspaper “Zavtra” noted: “This book could be called a ‘textbook,’ an ‘encyclopedia,’ or even a ‘bible’ of ‘Sovietism’ as a unique form of civilizational community. In it, the author combines and creatively rethinks the key points of practically all his earlier works devoted to ‘Soviet civilization.’” The Russian economic geographer Grigory Agranat wrote: “A two-volume monograph on the Soviet civilization by S. G. Kara-Murza leaves a good impression.”
