Description
The novel “The Sот” (1929) is one of the first works of Soviet literature about the heroism and creative drive of a free people, which raises the country’s industry—about the pathos of collective labor.

In the novel, vivid images of communists are recreated: Ivan Uvadyov, leader and educator of the masses, who headed the construction of a large pulp mill on the river Sot, and his comrades—David Zheglov, Susanna Renne, engineer Sergey Potemkin.

Bred by the revolution, these people brought new life and new human relationships into the northern forest wilderness.

The novel “The Sот,” according to A. M. Gorky, is “the most successful incursion of true art into true reality.”
