“What do you mean you’re getting married?” I ask, completely in shock. I look at my beloved man and can’t believe what I’ve heard.

“Well, yes, I’m getting married,” he shrugs, as if the words mean nothing surprising. “You didn’t think our relationship would lead to marriage? Come on, Alyonushka, you have to understand that we’ll never marry you.”

“Then why all of this?”—I barely manage to hold back tears.

“Because I’m good with you. So good, like with no one else. My marriage means nothing,” he tries to pull me to him, but I don’t give in. I fold my arms across my chest and block him with an invisible wall.
