Harlan Ellison (1934–2018) is one of the most famous American science fiction writers. He’s famous as one of the most productive authors of short prose and also for being among the most decorated and scandalous. His name became synonymous not only with enormous success, but also with outstanding literary craftsmanship. And besides that—a strong will, a firm character, and unusually high demands on himself and others, in word and deed. Ellison said you should write only about the three most important things in life: sex, love, and the relationships between men and women; violence (because our entire society is built exclusively on violence); and dependence on career (99 people out of 100 are ready to endure any humiliations from their boss to preserve their careers). In recent years Ellison wrote little, but from time to time he reminds the world of himself with fresh scandalous outbursts.
