The Falcon of Sparta

401 BCE, Mesopotamia. Shahinshah Artaxerxes II, just ascended to the throne of the largest state of the era, the Achaemenid Empire, has planned the murder of his main enemy—his brother Cyrus the Younger. Cyrus manages to escape and decides to overthrow the would-be fratricide with the help of Greek mercenaries led by Clearchus, a Spartan who once was the tyrant of Byzantium.

In the battle on the banks of the Euphrates, the Greeks proved themselves in all their glory, but Cyrus’s death made their further presence in Persian lands not only meaningless, but also deadly dangerous. With no means to live, surrounded by enemies, they must carve a way out of the very heart of the empire back home…
