The great Spanish playwright and genius of the Renaissance, Lope de Vega, wrote more than two thousand plays in his lifetime. About a quarter of them were published; the rest’ texts were either not preserved or not found. Lope de Vega’s masterpieces “The Lady of Valencia” and “A Dog in the Manger” tell of an “ordinary miracle” of love. And contemporaries called Lope de Vega “a miracle of nature.”
“A Dog in the Manger” — a musical comedy based on a play by Lope de Vega — is a romantic story of the capricious, hot-tempered, and passionate beauty Diana and of a secretary desperately in love with her.
