N. Berdyaev’s 1916 book, “The Meaning of Creativity. An Attempt to Justify Man,” sums up his earlier spiritual and philosophical searches and outlines the direction of the дальнейшее становление of his mature, independent, and original thought. It is here that Berdyaev’s “religious philosophy,” born under conditions of tense opposition to the official Orthodox Church, is first fully grasped and clearly formulated. The main axis of the work is the understanding of creativity as human revelation and as a continuation of world-creation together with God, where the human being is placed at the very center of existence.
