After Stalin’s death, even within the country’s top leadership there were ominous rumors. Even to this day, many believe that Joseph Vissarionovich was murdered. There are many versions—one more fantastical and absurd than the other. But it’s telling: Stalin’s murderer is sought among his closest circle.
So was he actually dead or was he killed? And if he was killed, who could have done it? And what would have happened to the country that lost its leader if Khrushchev had not won, but Beria?
These versions are examined in Leonid Mlechin’s audio book “The Death of Stalin,” recorded at the Ardis studio.
