Hard days are coming to Lochdub.

Priscilla Halberton-Smythe returns to the village—an old love of constable Hamish Macbeth. And she’s not coming alone, but with a new suitor! Nasty, unbearable midges attack Lochdub, and in one of the houses the new tenants move in. At first, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas seem like a lovely couple, but the exemplary housewife Trixie Thomas quickly sets things straight in Lochdub: clubs for every interest open in the village, and smoking and fatty food are banned.
