At the center of the novel is undoubtedly the charming Triana—a woman who once dreamed of becoming a great musician—and the demonic violinist Stefan, a restless ghost of a Russian aristocrat. With the help of his magical violin, he begins to pursue her in order to enchant and dominate her, and then, through the music she loves so much, to drive her into madness.
But Triana understands the power of music—perhaps even more than Stefan himself—and decides to stand up to him and fight not only for her mental health, but for her life as well. The struggle drags them both into dreadful supernatural realms, where they are surrounded by memories, horrors, and astonishing truths.
