Young doctor Tamara Dadiani unexpectedly receives news of the death in Madagascar of her ex-husband, epidemiologist Ivan Balandin. Despite the divorce, they remained good friends, so Tamara, without giving it much thought, goes to the “red island” to dig into the reasons behind the death of a person dear to her. At first they try to convince her that Ivan traded in narcotic drugs and was shot by “accomplices,” and then that he was killed by Islamic terrorists in Madagascar. Tamara realizes that all of it is a lie. She meets Kashmir surgeon Tahir Dogra and learns that an unknown disease, much like meningitis, is killing local residents. But ordinary treatment in such cases doesn’t help—so Tamara suspects that Ivan likely lost his life for exactly this reason…
