Bazhov’s tales absorbed plot motifs from folk legends and stories of the Ural people, as well as accounts from mountain craftsmen and prospectors. Real, everyday details sit alongside fantastic folklore images of the Mistress of the Copper Mountain, the Great Serpent, Ognevikha-Poskakushka, the kid Silver Hoof, and other wondrous characters.
Based on Bazhov’s works, the films “Stone Flower” and Prokofiev’s ballet “The Tale of the Stone Flower” were created, as well as K. V. Molchanov’s opera of the same name, along with numerous works of sculpture and painting.
Recorded in 2003.
