What do we expect from a fairy tale? Of course—miracles, because in a fairy tale anything is possible. And fairy tales were—and remain—a treasury of folk wisdom and… literary plots. Through fairy tales we learn about the world, the traditions and foundations of a people that were passed from generation to generation.
On this disc, you’ll find fairy tales written by the outstanding Russian poet Vasilya Zhukovsky (1783–1852). They feature wonderful transformations and perilous journeys, brave heroes and savage monsters; and in them, good always triumphs over evil! Zhukovsky’s fairy tales were listened to by the heir to the Russian throne himself—the future Emperor Alexander II, whose mentor was Vasily.
