Description
The latest in time to be created are the trickster-genre tales, apparently included in the collection in Egypt, during its final editing. These stories also took shape in an urban environment, but they reflect the life of small craftsmen, day laborers, and the poor who make ends meet with occasional earnings. Trickster tales are characterized by sharp irony in depicting representatives of secular authorities and the clergy in the least flattering way. The plot of many of these novellas is fraud—meant not so much to rob someone as to fool some naïve person. The story about Delilah the Clever is a brilliant example of this type of tale.
