Maxim Gorky is an author many people meet already in school. He was established as a classic of socialist realism, and thereby, for many years, an almost mandatory, unquestioningly enthusiastic perception of his name formed around him—pushing out a critical viewpoint. However, if we step away from imposed assessments, it becomes clear that above all there is the personality: a living person with a humane orientation, internally complex and capable of suffering.
